Our  patented Silent Pocket  products use the highest quality materials built to last, providing years of privacy and security protection. They are simple, discreet, easy to use, weather resistant, durable and designed for everyday carry and living.

Here are our most frequently asked questions:

Q: How do they work?

A: Silent Pocket is an impenetrable shield between your mobile device and radio frequency signals, which are emitted and received by your device. Once inside, your device is completely sealed and acts as a Faraday cage, which blocks ALL signals to and from your wireless device(s).

Q: What exactly is a Faraday cage?

A:  The Faraday cage was invented by Michael Faraday and is in laymen's terms, a metallic cage that uses its conductive properties as a, well, conductor, and it redistributes the exterior electromagnetic charges  in such a way that the interior and exterior fields cancel each other out.

Q: What else can I use a Silent Pocket for?

A: To protect your identity by blocking RFID-chipped passports, credit cards, smart keys, ID's, security badges, etc.

Q: What is the difference between using a Silent Pocket and airplane mode?

A: Airplane mode does not guarantee that all signals to and from the phone are cut off; and is dependent upon make and model.  Using a Silent Pocket, you are guaranteed to block all signal communication and connectivity, mitigating your risk.

Q: Will it damage my phone or affect my service?

A: No. Silent Pocket products do not damage wireless devices. Service is temporarily interrupted in a passive way, and resumed in 10-20 seconds when the phone is taken out of the case, just as it does when entering or exiting areas where there is no reception at all.

Q: Why don't I just turn off my phone?

A: Some phones may still be active even though they appear to be turned off. Even though the phone seems to be off, it may still be able to remember and/or report your location. Slipping your phone into a Silent Pocket creates an electromagnetic barrier between the phone and the cellular network. You're completely off the grid.

Q: When I remove my phone what do I see?

A: When your phone regains service from "dormant mode", it will receive all missed data including emails, voicemails, texts, notifications, etc. momentarily.

Q: Why should I be concerned about GPS? Nobody is following me...

A: Chances are that's correct, but one can never be too careful in this day and age; and most importantly, you can protect your children's whereabouts from predators as well.

Q: When I put my phone inside will it search for signal and drain my battery?

A: Your telephone will switch to dormant mode once it attempts to find signal for a short amount of time. In fact, leaving your device inside for extended periods of time (ie. overnight) conserves battery life significantly.

Q: When someone calls my phone while I'm using a Silent Pocket, what happens?

A: Your phone rings through normally for the caller and takes them to voicemail. Once you remove your phone, you will receive any voicemails left, but will not see missed calls.

Q: Will my phone's alarm still work?

A: Yes, your phone’s alarm will not be silenced and you'll still be able to use the functions of set reminders on the internal time clock.  The sleeve is not soundproof.

Q: Are there any other benefits to Silent Pocket products?

A: Yes, in addition to fully blocking signals, our products protect against scanning and lifting of personal information from RFID chips found in credit cards, passports, ID badges, etc.  They also have anti-radiation properties.

Q: Will the products protect against harmful EMF radiation for electronics?

A: Yes, Radio Frequency (RF) waves are actually varying electric and magnetic fields. Silent Pocket products are lined with a high quality RF shielding material which shorts out the electric and magnetic fields so that incoming signals are reflected, deflected, and outgoing high-frequency electromagnetic radiation (energy) is trapped inside.

Q:  I just bought a Key Fob Guard.  How does it work?

A:  You have to unsnap the 3-fold in the fob guard, open up said folds, then locate the pouch inside that contains the shielding material.  Your smart key goes inside the shielding material of that pouch and gets snapped shut (see picture below).  Once inside, your key will no longer unlock your doors or start your ignition.  (if key signal has been established with certain make/models prior to placement in key fob, ignition may still work)

key fob guard faq frequently asked questions

Please note that simply folding the 3-fold around the key without placing it inside the pouch and snapping it shut will result in signal leakage.  This will make the product to appear to not work, and has happened to many of our customers already.

Q:  I just bought your 10 Liter Faraday Dry Bag.  How to I properly secure it and ensure all signals to and from my wireless device(s) are being blocked?

A:  Even more so than water, frequencies can leak out of the tiniest of spaces.  That said, you have to tightly roll down the bag at least 3x (5x is optimal), and secure the clips together.  You will then notice the bag is air-proof as well as water- and signal-proof as well.  To test its signal-blocking capabilities, simply drop a smart phone inside, roll up tightly as described above, and call it from another phone.  When it does not ring, you'll know it's working.
