Is that co-working space the best for your business?

With office space on the rise all over the country, many companies are turning to co-working spaces that are popping up all over. While they have the many advantages of the modern office such as high speed internet, kitchens, the possibility of public or private desks, and more! Is there more of a cost than your monthly fee?

It was recently found that one of the largest owners of Co-Working spaces, WeWork, has massive security flaws in the wireless networks at their spaces.

One user of the space, Teemu Airamo, found these flaws in the company's Manhattan co-working space. He began his scan because his company had contracts and sensitive documents that needed to stay secure. When he found out that not only was his, but many others information via their devices was easily accessible he tried to let WeWork know, to which they responded that they know.

WeWork offers "high-speed internet" to all its customers, but was recently found that their most basic option has multiple vulnerabilities, such as a very basic internet password that seems is even repeated at multiple locations, nationally and perhaps internationally. At the same time, WeWork charges extra for their private network and even more for a private line for your company. With the multiple users on a single day that are members or one time users, security should be a priority for the company.

Because of this, Airamo has made multiple attempts to contact the company on the upper level, it seems that nothing changes. Over the years he has seen the same thing over and over, which is why he took matters into his own hands.

He started first by using a VPN service for his company, which worked for years but began to be too slow for his needs. His most recent security measure is to route all of his company's traffic through a computer that authenticates the data.

While we understand that this is a highly complicated and extensive task for most, we recommend that you be weary of using the open network at your local co-working space. There are many free VPN options available for single use and low cost ones for company use that could save your company.
